Why I Like Jack Layton and the NDP
Party Goals
These are just a few of their policies that are important to me:
- They want to undue the damage Harper has done to women’s rights and restore the funding that was cut.
- Stop unnecessary tax giveaways to corporations.
- Stop cell phone companies, banks, and credit card companies from ripping people off.
- They want to stop corporate wealth for the few, and have economic and social equality for all.
- They would like to end poverty (we’ll see, that’s what they all say)
- The NDP Sound Intelligent
I got some liberal propaganda slipped under my door the other day, and it basically said that we shouldn’t vote NDP because some of their members were on film smoking pot(the article forgot to mention that this was while educating the public about pot with Mark Emery and the Marijuana Party, before they joined the NDP).
Now, I don’t know about you, but I think that’s fucking awesome. Real people, living life how they want to, standing up for what is right. Once I read that I liked the NDP even more! And the fact that some members were smoking pot on camera to make a point tells me that they have common sense and ambition. That says to me that the NDP are made up of members who are likely to support a marijuana decriminalization bill , which this country desperately needs(Other NDP members have already said they would support a decriminalization bill), and other basic human rights that other parties don’t seem to want to address.
Stephen Harper would throw these people in jail for something he most likely "believes" is harmful, after ignoring scientific evidence and statistical analysis. Who is wiser? I’d say the people who are confident enough with their reasoning skills to allow themselves to be filmed, which was for an important cause. It’s a shame that these 2 heroes had to resign to protect the NDP’s reputation. Are Canadians really so stupid that the knowledge of party members smoking pot is enough to make them vote for another party?
Anyway, I like people who stand up for what is true, who fight for a cause. I like ACTION. The other parties like the Conservatives pretend to be "virtuous leaders" who then spread misconceptions about things to further their strange agendas, and do nothing to help our society evolve.
- Jack Layton Sounds Enlightened
When Jack Layton speaks he sounds like a typical Canadian. Most politicians drone on about government mumbo jumbo that most of us automatically tune out. They do that to make what they’re saying sound important and to take up time, but the words have very little substance. When Jack Layton speaks, he uses basic logic and clear, concise sentences. He addresses things that me and many other Canadians think about on a daily basis. For instance, he wants to tax the corporations, whereas the liberals and conservatives want to give more money to the corporations. Layton seems generally concerned about the Canadian people, not because he says he is, but because of the type of issues he brings up, the things that most Canadians can agree with. He talks about issues the same way that I would talk about them with my friends.
I know Jack Layton can come off as an asshole. I’ve seen him debate on television before and he sounded like dick. But sometimes it takes an asshole, to take on an even bigger asshole, like Stephen Harper. Layton may be an ass, but he’s always on Harper’s case, calling him out whenever he does something stupid or immoral. Of course any party leader would do this, they want to win the election after all. Layton seems different though. He makes his points by using straight forward logic that’s not warped by political dialogue designed to mask other intentions.
- Jack Layton Backs His Members
Recently Stephen Dion fired one of his members for being suspicious about Americas involvement with the 9/11 attacks and supposedly making anti Semitic remarks(I couldn’t find any clear evidence why these statements were anti-Semitic, but if you can find something please post ).
It’s a tragedy that people can’t even post their educated opinions on their own blog without everyone calling for your resignation. If we all just go with the status quo and never question anything, we might as well be slaves.
An NDP member, Bev Collins has recently come under attack because she has similar suspicions, meaning she has been examining the evidence and likes to know the truth about things like most of us. Again, people are calling for her resignation, but Layton will hear none of it. Layton’s even investigated the material that she’s been reading! He doesn’t share her beliefs but at least he examines the evidence for himself and respects his members right to free speech.
Arggh, I’m reading other blogs and people are upset because Layton is friends with a guy who writes some of this 9/11 conspiracy stuff and has thoroughly examined the evidence. Why is this bad?! Why are people so bent on assuming everything is always okay and that our governments would NEVER LIE to us? Why is questioning things considered a bad thing? Get a clue people. Man, look at this: http://jasoncherniak.blogspot.com/2008/09/media-looking-into-ndps-911-conspiracy.html . Read some of the comments. I’m stunned by some of the close mindedness of people. I thought Canadians had a bit more common sense than this.
It is our duty as citizens of a democracy to investigate anything suspicious in our governments.
Sorry my anger is getting me off track.
- Jack Layton Doesn’t Fuck Around
He’s concerned with corporate takeover, government corruption, human rights, I could go on and on. He’s not scared to talk about anything that he feels is important. Even if it could hurt his chances at getting elected, he stands up for what he believes in and continues to discuss it. For instance, when the public reacts and makes illogical assumptions about his stances, like assuming that because he’s concerned about sovereignty that he’s a conspiracy theorist. He doesn’t silence his opinions to get more votes from the uneducated. That is real. He’s the real deal.
Layton decimating at the Canadian Leaders Debate:
In Conclusion
The Liberals and Conservatives have shown time and time again that they won’t follow through on their promises. Are Layton and his members just another bunch of politicians who make false promises? Layton could very well be just another douche bag politician, but at least when he talks I can relate to what he’s saying. We won’t know until they get elected I guess.

Jack Layton comes across as a fake pinhead, who simply talks nonsense because he knows all too well that he will never have power, thus will never have to be accountable for any of the stupid things he says. I hate Layton and will be thrilled when the NDP replace him with a real human being.

Layton talks nonsense? He uses logic and scientific data when addressing the issues about marijuana, which no other party leader has the balls to do. This is talking nonsense?
Layton seriously investigated the 9-11 conspiracy's like any person who cares about truth in our world. Does this make him a fake?
I'd rather have a guy who challenges the status quo, than someone who just says whatever will get them elected.
He isn't popular simply because too many Canadian citizens are uneducated morons and vote with their emotions.
You "hate" him and wish he'd be replaced with a "real human being"? I am at a loss for words, because he comes off as more real than any of these other jackasses.
Pardon me while I go take a running leap off a second story balcony.
