I agree Wendy. There are many underlying reasons why our governments want to continue to embrace prohibition. Besides making money off of the criminal activity, there is also the pharmaceutical industry that would keep marijuana illegal so they can keep making billions off of their various painkillers, that work about half as well as cannabis and kill way more people. Then there's the government alcohol industry, the industry that has a monopoly on the only legal recreational drug, which would hate to see a much better, much safer and natural mind expanding herb freely available. It would hurt these industries too much. It all boils down to financial gain. Tis a truly sad world we live in. Thanks for your comment!

You forgot the main industry that is benefiting from the prohibition on marijuana--the weapons producers. The ban on illegal drugs is nothing more that an excuse for massive arms production. We are creating war zones out of our inner cities and in entire countries. Think Columbia, Afghanistan and Mexico is not far behind. What is the potential here in Canada?
We need to see the war on drugs for what it really is, an excuse to manufacture weapons.
