Harper to Dismantle Charter of Rights and Freedoms Upon Majority Win
So if you're a fundamentalist christian Prime Minister of Canada, how do you force your compassionless and illogical ideals on the public when there's a body of judges assigned to uphold our rights and freedoms based on compassion and logic? Well you make them answer to you of course, and the final decision will always be yours.
"Right from the beginning, the charter has been controversial. There were a large number of politicians who did not support that approach to civil liberties. They prefer the traditional approach of common law and parliamentary supremacy." - Stephen Harper

Is this a joke? You're citing a random blogger and not even making an effort to find the out the real truth. I suggest that you look up the phrase "constitutional entrenchment." You will find that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms is constitutionally entrenched. The only way that it can be amended is through the 7+50 formula. Do you think that Harper has the support of 2/3 of all MLAs in 7 provinces to amend the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Note, that I say amend and not dismantle. Furthermore, tell me what happened with the Charlottetown Accord in 1992 when support was there for a constitutional amendment and then it went to a national referendum. It was shot down. Even the evidence of intent to amend is weak. Harper never said what he wanted to change and believe me, if you actually read the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, there are some things that need to go as far as limiting the rights of provinces and giving the federal government too much power. So seriously, if all you're going to do is demonize the opposition because they have different viewpoints than you, don't even bother.
