Displaying the Confederate Flag in Canada
What’s with Canadians displaying the confederate flag on their vehicles all of a sudden? I’ve started noticing it here and there in the past few months, and today I took a short drive and I saw it on 3 different license plates in one trip! I’m confused about what these people are trying to prove? Are you trying to look bad ass? I want to know the message they are attempting to send to their fellow Canadians. I’m a hick and proud of it? They must not be aware of the controversy surrounding that flag and probably have no clue what it represents.
Even if you’re not intending to be racist, why put it up and risk the possibility of people thinking that you are? It really doesn’t help either that almost every vehicle I’ve seen it on has been a beat up pick-up truck with an angry looking dude driving and his terrified girlfriend riding shotgun.
I could very well be overlooking something. There may be some sort of profound modern age symbolism that I’m unaware of. But if your goal is simply to look like a bad ass, then you fail. All I see is a racist hick. Sorry.

hey buddy, i got an idea for ya. how about you do a little research and learn what the confederate flag truly represents and while your at it, why dont you find out what the civil war was fought over in the first place. and i’ll tell ya, it sure as hell wasnt slavery. and just because we live in canada doesnt mean that we cant fully respect that and fight for the truth. and not to mention, your criticizing other people for being “angry”,”racist” and “trying to look badass”, but when it comes down to it, you dont know these people at all. and you have no idea as to why they fly the flag that you have such a problem with. so does that mean that you are being predjudice yourself. so as far as im concerned, you going on your little rant on here about a subject you clearly know nothing about, makes you alot worse than any of those guys you mentioned.

Yes, I stated in my article that I had no clue why people fly the flag, which is why I was asking.
I did some research but all I could come up with was that it was controversial. Couldn’t really figure out any specific reason to proudly display it, especially in Canada. So I asked the question, if it’s controversial, why fly it at all and risk the controversy.
I am uneducated on the subject for sure. I wish you could have enlightened me, but you didn’t.

No Flag is free of Sin.
The Confederate Flag stands for everything that the “Earn 5 Show 25″ Bling Culture doesnt.
In short.
1.Live Simply
2.Care Deeply
3.Speak Kindly
4.Love Generously (women and drink)
5.Leave the rest to the Good Lord who made this great land.
I am Canadian.
I am not White.
I am Confederate. Which means. I belong to the Dirt that feeds me, cleanses me and grounds me.
Amen.

i could see it if you live in Nova-Scotia is that where you live? if that is the case then i shall explain as simple as i can! the blue solitaire is for saint Andrews of Scotland they arrived in America mostly the South in the 1800's the orange is for the ulster-Scots who came to America in the 1700's into the appilatian <sp) mountains! and into the southern states……you can look at the 13 stars in two ways,1st the 13 states of the confederacy or 2nd the 13 colonial states in which the south fought and won the America's independence now some may not agree with any of this but i must say ive researched many years and put it all together without the influence of corrupted views from the union text books!

From Wikipedia:
"By 1860, sectional disagreements between North and South revolved primarily around the maintenance or expansion of slavery."
When it all boils down to it, slavery and white supremacy is the main reason for this whole confederacy thing. Again I ask you, how can you be so proud of this, when really that's pretty much what it stands for? I poured through the entire article and I could find nothing to do with being the salt of the earth, love, or any of the stuff you guys are talking about.
You guys sound more like you just jumped on some redneck bandwagon, and are attemping to modernize this flag with some new meaning while ignoring the horrible past.

Dear John.
Just to create a background for everyone else about this so called John.
John is a pro drug use, pro abortion pro cliche female. (Shampoo? Hairstylist? Feminism?) Come on! You weren't very creative either. John Smith??
She is also an anti Christian, anti American Communist with a serious aversion to White people. She believes there is no poverty in North America and is keen on funneling money overseas. This is probably the result of the extensive media sponsored White guilt. Or she could be an ethnic immigrant. Please note the curious over use of the word "pundit". Not very Canadian that word.
Now that we know who we are talking to. Let me deal with the claims of slavery. Every slave ship that ever existed flew the Yankee flag. History is written by those who win the wars. Here is Abe Lincoln's Ottawa speech. Skip to the last paragraph. He was a racist. He himself admits there was no difference in cultural attitudes towards black people between the North and the South at that time.

I would like to re-state. A flag is the property of its people. It is a symbol of their will. A flag doesn't belong to the past, it belongs to the present. An insult to a flag, is an insult to all its people. So don't use your personal biases and shortcomings to defame a rich culture. If you are free of sin, you may throw the first stone. And finally, my flag is called the rebel flag not because its people are bandwagon jumpers. It is the opposite. We are rugged individualists who are always against a huge organized big brother governments. So I'd invite you to get out of your racial segregated City head West into the small towns of Alberta and B.C. and see what it really means to be a Confederate and a Canadian. I invite you to find out, what it means to be cleansed in Sweat and Baptized in Mud for we are the true sons of this dirt.

Wow. Just wow. At first I wasn't even gonna bother replying, but I can't help it!
Okay, so despite trying to attack my character by pointing out my views, such as feminism or marijuana use (Tom thinks pro medicinal herb = pro all drug usage), which are opinions based in logic and education.
I am a communist (what the hell?)
I hate white people (because I mention the lack of diversity in politics)
I am a female because only females are concerned with their own health. Males apparently never think about their hair and it's unmanly to be concerned about what chemicals they put in it.
I believe there is no poverty in north america (what?)
I use the word pundit (it surprises you that I'm aware of the entire world and not just the couple acres of land you no doubt rock in your chair on)
I know Abe Lincoln still had racist attitudes. Everyone did at that time, as was the level of the current moral zeitgiest. He was also a politician and wanted to keep support from all the racist fucks who hated black people so much that they would have lynched him if he suggested that they were equals. Keep in mind that he wanted to END slavery and the confederates did not. How hard is this to understand? He wanted to end the abuse, suffering, and ownership of another human being.
You claim a rich culture. A culture who thinks feminism is a bad thing(aka hatred of women), not to mention a culture who would control women and force them to have children, a culture who only thinks with their gut emotions and doesn't step back and look at things rationally and examine the evidence. I hate to generalize a whole culture, but Tom, if you represent your rich culture, then I cackle with laughter.
P.S I live in the west, great job.

i'm from New York. go down to Harlem waving your confederate flag, i'm sure someone explain to you exactly what it means…if you read (i know, some of you clearly lack remedial reading skills–is "remedial" too big of a word?) history books or know anything about the US Civil War, you would be perhaps slightly more capable of understanding what that flag means and what it connotes (look it up in the dictionary) to this very day. It represents slavery and white supremacy. It just does. You can try and deny it all you want, it's like waving around a Nazi flag, sure you can say the swastika represents an ancient symbol of peace, but if you have half a brain cell (i know, it's wishful thinking) you'd know exactly what it means in the modern cultural zeitgeist (once again, dictionary…try sounding out the word first).
